Applecross Group Home
The Applecross home has been operated by this agency since October, 1999. We have established trusting supportive relationships between the residents, staff and family members. The individuals who currently live at Applecross have complex needs including mobility issues, high medical needs and a strong desire for independent and fulfilling lives. We are currently contracted to provide residential care for four residents. Applecross is staffed 24 hours a day excluding Monday to Friday from 10-3. Residents’ are required to attend a community inclusion program.
The staff team provides residents with a very active and fulfilling lives while still providing the care needed. There is a great deal of positive stakeholder involvement in the Applecross home. Residents, parents and associated professionals have expressed their positive feelings towards the operation of the home. There have been significant positive outcomes for the residents including, improved self-management and coping skills, support in mental health issues through improvements in communication skills, reduction of critical incidents, opportunities to attain personal goals in the area of vocational interests, increased enjoyment in their independence and involvement in their communities through social contacts..

Kaitlyn’s Way Group Home
The Kaitlyn’s Way home has been operated by J. Garnons Williams Ltd. since October, 1994 and operates within a duplex. For the most part residents who live at Kaitlyn’s Way have dual diagnosis: mental challenges and a mental health diagnosis. They also have limited mobility. We are currently contracted to provide care for four residents and we provide a flexible community inclusion program that involves partnering with other agencies for external supports on some days while on other days residents access the community with Kaitlyn’s staff assistance. The home operates with 24 hour staffing supports, including an awake night shift, to meet the medical, behavioral and personal care needs of the residents.
The staff at Kaitlyn’s Way work towards maintaining a happy home by providing excellent care and a safe environment for the residents. The staff have made this a home by personalizing the house with pictures and artwork done by the residents.
Kaitlyn’s Way staff are always up for anything when it comes to planning community inclusion outings for the residents. The residents enjoy everything from musical events to nature walks on the local trails, beach combing is a favorite activity enjoyed by all rain or shine! The staff are very aware of health concerns and never miss a chance to locate an activity that promotes healthy living with keeping in mind the mobility and health needs of the residents.

Mountainview Group Home
The Mountainview home has been operated by J. Garnons Williams Ltd. since March, 1996. This beautiful central Nanaimo home was built specifically to meet the high equipment and larger space needs of our medically fragile residents. We are currently contracted to provide residential care for five residents and in home day program services. We plan meaningful community outings for individuals that including various activities such as hockey games, swimming, bingo, coffee outings and any other activity that may be of interest. There is 24 hour staffing support provided, including an awake night shift, to meet the medical, mental health, behavioral and personal care needs of the residents.
The staff team strives provide exceptional care and support to the residents. This has resulted in positive outcomes including: improved resident health, reduction in health related critical incidents, communication with family members, increased opportunities for social interaction and community access, medical advocacy resulting in increased access to required supports and decreased dependence on behavioral medications.

Westwood Group Home
The Westwood home has been operated by J. Garnons Williams Ltd. since September 1994. Westwood was purpose built by BC Housing. We are currently contracted to provide residential care and community inclusion services for five residents. There is 24 hour staffing support provided, including an awake night shift, to meet the medical, behavioral and personal care needs of the residents.
The individuals who reside at Westwood have a wide variety of communication abilities, mobility challenges and different interests. The staff team members are very attentive to non-verbal communication cues as well as to the expressed wishes and needs of the residents. Staff always strive to determine what each resident is trying to tell them and to balance their wishes with health conditions and routines. Residents are encourages to express themselves and acquire independence wherever possible.
Outside of very challenging health conditions, and the medical routines that are required to support high medical needs individuals, our main focus is community inclusion. This past year residents have enjoyed outings to the Port Theater, VIU Theater, sporting events (i.e. hockey, basketball, volleyball, football), ice skating, festivals, local events – as well as regular recreational activities such as swimming, nature walks and bowling, and many more. Quality outings are a priority and we strive to plan activities that will help the residents with health concerns and/or just big entertainment to improve their quality of life!
