Applecross Group Home

The Applecross home has been operated by this agency since October, 1999.  The home is owned by BC Housing.  The individuals who currently live at Applecross are young adults with complex needs including mobility issues, high medical needs and a strong desire for independent and fulfilling lives.  We are currently contracted to provide residential care and community inclusion programs for four residents.  There is 24 hour staffing supports provided, including an awake night shift, to meet the medical, behavioral and personal care needs of the residents.

There is a great deal of positive stakeholder involvement in the Applecross home.  Residents, parents and associated professionals have expressed their positive feelings towards the operation of the home. There have been significant positive outcomes for the residents including,  improved self-management and coping skills, support in mental health issues through improvements in communication skills, reduction of critical incidents, opportunities to attain personal goals (such as attending VIU) increased enjoyment in their independence and involvement in their communities through social contacts.

Kaitlyn’s Way Group Home

“At Kaitlyn’s Way we are a dedicated and caring team, who work together to provide the best care possible for our residents.  We recognize that through building healthy relationships, we can support our residents to develop themselves in whatever avenues and opportunities they feel would enrich their lives.”

The Kaitlyn’s Way home has been operated by J. Garnons Williams Ltd. since October, 1994 and operates within a duplex dwelling. The home is owned by BC Housing.  We are currently contracted to provide residential care for four residents and in home community inclusion services The home operates with 24 hour staffing supports, including an awake night shift, to meet the medical, behavioral and personal care needs of the residents.

The characteristics of the duplex, the individuals and close knit neighborhood have created some unique and difficult challenges for the staff team and residents of this home.  Positive outcomes for the residents include: support with communication skills in problematic mental health issues, reduction of critical incidents and increase social opportunities through the development of a specific community inclusion program for each individual including independence and involvement in activities of daily living.

Mountainview Group Home

The Mountainview home has been operated by J. Garnons Williams Ltd. since March, 1996.  The home is owned by BC Housing.  We are currently contracted to provide residential care for five residents and community inclusion services.  There is 24 hour staffing support provided, including an awake night shift, to meet the medical, behavioral and personal care needs of the residents.

The staff commitment to quality care and community living has resulted in positive outcomes including: improved resident health, reduction health related critical incidents, communication with family members, increased opportunities for social interaction and community access, medical advocacy resulting in increased access to required supports and decreased dependence on behavioral medications.

Westwood Group Home

The Westwood home has been operated by J. Garnons Williams Ltd. since September, 1994.  The home is owned by BC Housing.  We are currently contracted to provide residential care for five residents and in home community inclusion services for all residents.  There is 24 hour staffing support provided, including an awake night shift, to meet the medical, behavioral and personal care needs of the residents. The most important factor, for us, in the event a placement is suggested, is that the new person is a “good fit” – getting along well with the other residents.

The individuals who reside at Westwood all face challenges in the areas of communication, health and aging with disabilities. Empathy and understanding are balanced with the health care needs of the residents, promoting independence in choices and self-determination.

Positive outcomes for the residents include: support with communication skills in problematic mental health issues, reduction of critical incidents and increase social opportunities through the development of a specific day program for each individual including independence and involvement in activities of daily living.
